STUDENT LIFE IN WITNEY


Shopping

Witney provides a wide range of amenities for students. The Marriotts Walk shopping complex has fantastic shops including Monsoon, New Look, Wallis, Debenhams, M&S, Dorothy Perkins and NEXT. Unique independent shops and home ware shops such as the Steamer Trading Company, Cargo and Lakeland make Witney a great stop for present shopping.



Nightlife

There are several restaurants in Witney, including ASK, Frankie and Bennys, Café Rouge, Indian restaurants and a Thai restaurant.

For the nightlife in Witney there is a vast range of pubs and clubs open throughout the night. There is regular live music in many of the pubs and DJs in IZI’s and Norton’s each week.

For a night out in Oxford, there is a bus service that runs until the early hours in the morning. Oxford hosts a wide range of pubs, nightclubs and wine bars along with many restaurants and 2 cinemas.

In October 2009 a new multi screen ‘Cineworld’ cinema opened in Witney. Tuesday night is a discounted night and OICB students with an ISIC card receive a student ticket discount.



Days Out

To get to Oxford from Witney, you can take either the ‘S1’ or the ‘S2’ bus. Oxford is a university city full of life and buzz. You’ll enjoy your weekends shopping and seeing the spires of Oxford.

A day trip to London is affordable, easy and great fun. Catch the bus from Witney, change in Oxford and arrive in London for a fun day out.

Why not visit Burford for a classic Cotswold afternoon tea and walk down the historic high street. Pop in and out of its charming, unique shops before taking a stroll along the riverside. Burford is a 15 minute drive from Witney, or you could take bus 233 which also continues on through the Cotswolds.

For a fun day out, especially if you parents are coming to visit, go to Cotswold Wildlife Park in Burford. In the summer of 2010 it became a tourism hotspot due to the arrival of the giraffes!

Alternatively Woodstock hosts the impressive Blenheim Palace perfect for sunny afternoon walks. Explore the parkland which is especially nice in the autumn when the trees change colour. Woodstock is a 15 minute drive, alternatively you could take bus 242 from Witney to Woodstock.



Exercise and Fitness

For fitness, Witney has a leisure centre with a gym, large swimming pool and several squash and badminton courts.

* ‘Pirate Fitness’ gym offers a student discount membership to all of its exercise classes and well equipped gym.

* ‘Mbodies’ is an exercise centre for health and performance specialising in Pilates.

* ‘Curves’ is a ladies only fitness centre which also offers a student discount.
